Privacy & cookie policy
Plain English, no legal padding. This covers what we do with your information when you enquire about a repair or send us a device, and what cookies this website uses.

Who we are
PC and Console Repair is a UK mail-in repair service run by James Plant as a sole trader. We're the data controller for the information described here — meaning we decide what's collected and what happens to it.
There's no shop or drop-off address: the whole service runs by post and email. The postal address for sending a device comes in your confirmation email, once you've had a price.
What we collect and why
Only what's needed to quote for a job, do the work and get your device back to you.
When you use the enquiry form
Your name, email address, which device you have and what you've told us about the fault. We use it to reply with a price and the postal address. Lawful basis: legitimate interests — you've asked us for a quote and we can't answer without it.
When you send a device in
Your postal address and phone number if you give one, plus notes on the work done and payment reference. We need these to return your device and to honour the 12-month guarantee. Lawful basis: performance of a contract, and legal obligation for the parts we're required to keep as business records.
What's on your device
Cleaning and repaste work doesn't need your account details or your saved data, and we don't go looking through it. If a repair genuinely can't be tested without signing in, we'll ask you first and explain why. Wiping or backing up personal data before you post a device is always the safest option.
Website analytics
None at the moment. This site doesn't run analytics, advertising or tracking of any kind, so there's nothing to consent to and no cookie banner to dismiss.
We don't buy contact lists, we don't sell your details to anyone, and we won't add you to a marketing list off the back of an enquiry.
How long we keep it
- Enquiries that don't turn into a job — deleted within 12 months.
- Completed jobs — kept for up to 6 years, so the 12-month guarantee can be honoured and the business records stay complete for HMRC.
- Your cookie choice — 1 year, in your own browser.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us to show you what we hold about you, correct anything wrong, delete it, limit what we do with it, or send it to you in a portable form. You can also object to us processing it on the basis of legitimate interests, and withdraw consent for cookies at any time.
Email [email protected] and we'll deal with it within one month. It's free, and we won't ask you why. The one thing we can't delete on request is a record we're legally required to keep, such as an invoice within the HMRC retention period.
Contact and complaints
Anything about your information, or this policy, goes to [email protected].
If we get it wrong and you're not happy with how we've dealt with it, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113. We'd rather you told us first so we can put it right.
We may update this policy — if it changes in a way that matters, the date at the top of the page changes with it.
